Micah Owen’s harrowing tale of a convoy ambush in 2003 Fallujah appeared in the first Journal of Military Experience and was a recent addition to the New York Times “Warrior Voices” segment. Micah is twice a veteran of the Iraq War (2003 & 2005) and twice a contributor to the JME. Beginning his work in the first classroom of veteran authors that founded the JME, he now finds his work featured in national news outlets and is an inspiration to aspiring veteran authors.

rain in the forecast
for a cool LA day
i can’t get to my umbrella, and nothing more to say
i hope i don’t get drenched
someone stole my portable umbrella,
i believe i know the idiot – i don’t believe i lost it
so, this a love poem
something to get
get the hell out of here
it is not love at all
not tonight
i wonder how many couples feel that way
i wonder how many singles feel that way
i wonder wonder wonder wonder who
well we all write the book of love
within the opportunities we get
and those opportunities we don’t get
how we are and are not in spite of
or because of
all that is going on
as it could be good
or one could be subjected to idiotic vile freaks
